The American Power Electronics Manufacturer Wolfspeed Is Planning To Build A Plant In Germany - Tech News Space

The rapid development of the electric vehicle industry increases the demand for next-generation semiconductor components. In particular, power elements made of silicon carbide can withstand higher loads and offer greater energy efficiency. According to rumours, the manufacturer of such products Wolfspeed expects to build a plant worth 2 billion euros in Germany.

Only in September last year it became known that the American company Wolfspeed is preparing to build the world’s largest company for the production of raw materials for the production of power components from silicon carbide in North Carolina. True, it is planned to build it only by 2030, so the project can be classified as a long-term investment.

According to publication Handelsblatt, by 2027 Wolfspeed wants to start building a power electronics plant in southwest Germany in Saarland. According to the source, the minority shareholder of the company will be the German manufacturer of car transmissions ZF, and the total budget of the project will exceed 2 billion euros. Representatives of stakeholders at the time of publication of the material by the Agency Reuters declined to comment on these rumours.

Keep in mind that Germany is the preferred investment region in the long-term plans of at least two other semiconductor manufacturers. Intel wants to set up its own chip testing and packaging company in Magdeburg. Rumor has it that TSMC’s first contract manufacturing plant in Europe with 28 nm technology could be built near Dresden.
